Connecting Capitals: The Creative Exchange of US/Belgium Deaf Youth as Digital Citizens is an independent study course offered only in Spring 2018, is a civic engagement explored through the lens of the experience of the deaf communities in the United States and Belgium. The overarching project goal is to connect and empower young people in both nations through meaningful discussions and creative expression. We will collaborate with The Centre of Fine Arts, Brussels (BOZAR), a leading institution of the arts. We will have two exchanges, with Belgian participants visiting DC, and then we will travel to Brussels. Through this program, there will be virtual exchange workshops, and participants will co-create an exhibition to present at Generation Next! Festival in May 2018, in Brussels.
Students must submit their Letter of Interest with two references. Print/Video formats accepted. Students also are encouraged to submit their CVs or Resumes, and portfolios to share their creative work.
Must have sophomore or junior status in Spring 2018, must be between 18-27 years old. Required to obtain valid passport and health insurance. Students must be willing to travel to Brussels, Belgium for 2 weeks, between May 5-30, 2018. (Dates to be determined.)
